Once there was a king who decided to share a part of his land to a villager who would create the best sculpture of him on his birthday. A castle helper working for this king heard everything and told her father about it. They were the ones who first knew the news. Her father was a good sculptor, and a good villager, so she thought that her father would be the best for the job. She convinced her father to start making the sculpture for the king. And he did. But her father, due to his heart of gold and unselfishness, told his friends about the king’s request. His friends immediately went home and sculpt as well. Her daughter got angry by what her father did, “Why did you do that father? I told you that news, not to spread to everyone else, but for us to certainly get that part of land we need.” Her father replied “Because I know it’s the kindest thing to do, Give and thou shall receive, don’t worry I am confident about this, I am half way finish with my sculpture, before the king’s birthday I am going to give this to him.” Her daughter didn’t utter a word anymore.

The day came before the King’s birthday, the father went to the castle bringing his masterpiece. The king was not there, he was busy preparing for his party. Yet, there was the prince who received the sculpture. The father loosen the curtain covering the masterpiece and everyone in the castle were astounded by its beauty, the dexterity of the hands who sculpted the masterpiece were evident, accurate and smooth edges, texture, the movement of the hands shown in its body, everything was perfect, it looks like an actual alive figure. The prince was glad, “The King for sure will love this, it’s the best sculpture of him I’ve seen so far”. Receiving the sculpture he promised he would take care of it until the king returns. The father left the castle proud, it’s his day, and tomorrow, he and his family’s life will experience change.

The king invited the villagers to his birthday party. One of his gifts was a sculpture of him, standing steadfastly, edges were not that precise, rough texture when touched, made out from a simple rock in the mountains, then again, that’s what he had long requested and he’s so happy. This sculpture was owned by the father’s friend. The king bestowed him the part of land and he went home victorious, he’s the one who got it, he’s the one who’ll experience the change of his life, he didn’t even turn back to the father, who told him everything, he forgot that, because of the father, he got a chance to have a better life, which at that event he really did. He forgot his friend.

The father’s jaw dropped of shock, he wanted to scream from disappointment, he can’t believe it. The opportunity he’s been holding on to was now taken away from him. He regret being kind, he regret being selfless caring, he regret doing the right thing. He was angry . “No! It can’t be! I have the better piece than him! I brought it here yesterday! You said it was perfect my lord!” he turned to the prince. “You said it? Didn’t you? You saw my masterpiece and you know it’s wonderful! You said it’s wonderful” he shouted, but the soldiers were already behind him ready to drag him outside of the castle. The prince apologized “I am sorry, I am reckless, I accidentally broke it.” it’s like the whole world fall on him! “It’s just that? You broke it and it looks like nothing happened. You will not even defend me to the King? You know I did better! I pour all my ideas, my strength in that sculpture, you don’t realize a thing of it?” The king who was now quite getting embarrassed due to the noise the father was creating interrupted the argument. “I understand your sentiments, however I wish to celebrate my birthday peacefully, just accept the fact that it was broken, and we can’t do anything about it, what do you want me to do? Give you the parcel of land though I wasn’t able to see your work? There will always be a next time. Soldiers please assist our gentleman here outside, he will gladly walk his way home.” The soldiers drag him outside of that castle.

In just a glimpse everything he dreamed of was gone! Life’s unfair, it’s not his fault his masterpiece broke, the prince was the witness how great his creation was, but not responsible enough to defend him, he sobbed. The daughter saw his father outside the castle gates weeping against the wall. “Father.” She called. Her father embrace her and beg for forgiveness, he told her she was right, he shouldn’t have told the others about the king’s request, maybe, just maybe, he’ll brought home to his family a parcel of land, life was unfair, life stole from him the chance to have a better life. The daughter answered “No father, you did the honorable thing, it doesn’t matter who got the land, it doesn’t matter you didn’t, what matter’s you showed how great you are as a father, how thankful I am to be born to this family, that my father is a good person, unselfish, generous, hardworking and loving. So though we didn’t have that land, it’s still fine, it didn’t stole with it the happiness we have as a family, we’re going home happy just like everyday, we’re going home with bountiful of hope, it’s just a parcel of land, there are still millions of land to own in this world, and we’ll take a part of it someday, I know.” “How do you know? How do you know that there’s still something left for us?” the father asked “I just know, because God is a generous God, He make sure that all his children will have whatever it is that’s appropriate for them and  all we have to do right now is to trust Him.” His daughter smiled. He realized that that parcel of land is nothing compared to the wisdom gained by his daughter. There’s nothing and none can be compared how rich he is belonging to such wonderful family. He may fail succeeding this chance, but it doesn’t mean he’ll fail the next thousand chances ahead of him. He wanted to curse the castle for being irresponsible, unfair, disorganized and inconsiderate but he rather not, he realized that even without that parcel of land he gained the most precious reward of all, a daughter who became wiser, a family who understands and support him everyday of his life, and most of all God who rescues him in his battles. “Let’s go home my child, I know your mother cooked the most delicious supper for tonight.” He said finally.
